About Blackpool and The Fylde College

Blackpool and The Fylde College is recognised as one of the top colleges in the country. It is designated as a National Beacon of Excellence and has been awarded a Charter Mark for the excellent service it provides to all its ‘customers’ – especially students. Earlier this year Ofsted provided us with our best ever inspection report, with 100% of the areas inspected deemed ‘outstanding’, ‘good’ or ‘satisfactory’. We have recently won a Beacon Award for Equality and Diversity.

The college dates back to 1892, when a school for fishermen was established in Fleetwood. Today, the college has 49 buildings located across the Fylde Coast with major campuses at Bispham, Central Blackpool, Ansdell and Fleetwood.

There are currently 4,000 full-time and 17,000 part-time students studying at the college.

Further education (16-19 years) and higher education courses are available in the following areas: Academic Studies, Art and Design, Business and Management, Construction, Engineering and Computing, Hair and Beauty Therapy, Health and Social Care, Hospitality Management, Performing Arts and Media, Teacher Training, and Tourism, Sports and Leisure. Maritime and Nautical Studies are available at our Fleetwood Campus, which is one of only four establishments of its type in the country. Many of our degree courses are validated by Lancaster University, one of the top ten universities in the UK.

As well as modern apprenticeships and dedicated business training, the college offers numerous part-time and ‘leisure learning’ courses to the community. We make a significant contribution to the development of the community and are strong supporters of Blackpool’s proposed Masterplan. Our courses in croupier skills and slot machine operations have earned us Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status for customer service quality for resort tourism and will facilitate Blackpool’s transformation into an international gambling destination.

For information about any of the courses we offer please contact our Course Enquiries Team on 01253 504343. Further details can be obtained by visiting our web site at www.blackpool.ac.uk.
